FIA in new push to prevent Formula 1 customer engine inequality

The FIA has moved to remove doubts about Formula 1 customer teams having engine performance parity with their works counterparts.

A new instruction has been issued insisting that all engines from a manufacturer are capable of being operated in the same way.

The rules already ensure that all power units are physically identical by using a dossier system. under appendix 4 of the FIA sporting regulations.

But the governing body has suspected that works teams may be able to use modes - in qualifying for example - that their customers might not have access to.

In a technical directive sent to teams last month FIA noted that while the purpose of appendix 4 and the dossier system "is to ensure that all power units supplied by one manufacturer are identical in all respects, we have good reason to believe that this may not be the case.

"Whilst the dossiers for each team may be identical it would appear that some are being operated in a different way to others being supplied by the same manufacturer.

"It is therefore our view that all power units supplied by one manufacturer should be identical, not only in terms of the dossier for each team being the same, but we also feel they should be operated in an identical way.

"With this in mind, we will expect all power units supplied by the same manufacturer to be:

"i) Identical according to the dossier for each team.

"and, unless a team informs us that they have declined any of the following, they should be:

"ii) Run with identical software and must be capable of being operated in precisely the same way.

"iii) Run with identical specifications of oil and fuel."

The optional aspect regarding fuel reflects that the fact that some customer teams may not use the same suppliers as the works cars.

For the past two years Ferrari has had permission from the FIA to field two completely different engines, with Toro Rosso using a year-old spec in 2016, and Sauber doing the same last season. But this year all customer teams are using current engines.

Por cosas como ésta, este año más que nunca hasta Australia nada. Ganadores no seremos pero vamos a tener un gran coche. No estoy de acuerdo en nada de lo que dices Gandalf. Sólo en lo austero de aditamentos (también os recuerdo que algunos meten mucha carga con no poco drag porque saben que tienen el motor más potente).

La gente que no sabemos, tenemos la tendencia a pensar que "mas" aditamentos, es mejor, o... como se suele decir... esta mas trabajado. Cosa que es un error de pies a cabeza.

Ferrari lleva años siendo el segundo o el mejor coche en algunos circuitos, con un alerón delantero totalmente liso y con menos cortes que ningún otro equipo.

En los años de dominio de RB. Era el coche mas simple con diferencia. Pero claro, el concepto de coche-ala, era lo que realmente lo hacia ganador.

Dicho de otro modo. Se gana mucho mas con un concepto aero, que no con 50.000 aletines.

Es a lo que me refiero desde el principio de la mañana. 

Eso, y que les falta mucho por traer entre los test y Australia (esto último para "tranqulilizar" al personal que ve poco cambio, entre otras cosas porque: entrada de S-Duct pero no salida, turning vanes inacabados, soporte para mini monkey seat pero sin el mini monley seat, no ala de T baja, dos apéndices grandes de la zona de bargeboards casi calcados, etc).

Yo os he entendido.

Pero entonces si falta mucho por traer y en el resto de equipos si que se ven cambios... es que vamos justitos y el resto medio o un paso por delante, ¿no?. No veo a los 3 cocos sencillos precisamente. Sobretodo me refiero a la atención al detalle, tengo la sensación que McLaren ha presentado conceptos, pero ya está.

Que justo en las presentaciones dijera el Pedro que habia una actu. importante para la 1ª carrera no me tranquiliza, que Zack dijera que no habia mas espacio y ver el coche pelado como el año pasado con los nuevos patrocinadores apenas visibles tampoco. Que Eric diga que han hecho un esfuerzo enorme para tenerlo apunto blablabla por temas de cambio de motor etc. cuando toro rosso hace el filming day dos días antes... pues tampoco me hace gracia.

Quizás soy muy exigente o ciego, pero es que este debe ser el año... que venimos de la ***** mas absoluta  .

Mi sensación desde que lo he visto ha sido "joder un puto coche de carreras" pero de los de verdad, de los de siempre, sin tantos flaps, agujeros, parapetos e historias como los otros que parecen más el halcón milenario que un F1. No se si será bueno o malo pero a mi me gusta.

tambien llevar cosas pà barcelona y despues pà australia es desperdiciar el tiempo , el similador està para algo y los test para comprobar la correlacion de datos

Ayer en el programa Hora de Formula 1 de Movistar F1, Carlos Sainz dijo algo que me llamó la atención sobre la presentación del Renault: "Habéis visto los colores, no el nuevo coche". Quizás sea el caso también del Mclaren y en los mismos test de la semana que viene empecemos a ver cosas muy distintas

This is a season of big change for McLaren. There's plenty to be excited about from its new design beyond a change of engine supplier and a new paint job

After three years of Honda struggles is McLaren ready to turn the corner and show its true potential? For the entire grid, the true measure of competitiveness is Mercedes. That team has dominated since the hybrid power unit regulations were introduced, but in the short-term McLaren's immediate measure will be Red Bull and, possibly on a few occasions, the works Renault team. Which of these three teams using the same power unit will come out on top?

On many occasions last season, Fernando Alonso stated the McLaren was the best chassis in the pitlane. Now, he should have the power unit to prove it. Even when the overall package wasn't up to the Mercedes level, Red Bull has still managed to pull off a few wins over the last few seasons, so assuming that Renault has burned the midnight oil on power unit development over the winter, 2018 will offer no hiding place for McLaren.

McLaren says the MCL33 is an evolution of the 2017 chassis, and it does look very well detailed in all of the critical downforce-producing areas. The team also stated a few weeks ago that the design philosophy was going to be about producing a car with stable aerodynamics, allowing the drivers to get the confidence to push to the limit in all circumstances. Both of these are very positive statements, and although the McLaren orange colour scheme won't do much for its ....hasta aqui llega el articulo de pago.....
