Pietra Ligure. “Bisogna aspettare almeno una settimana per verificare se la mano sopravvive”. Questo il primo commento del professor Igor Rossello al termine dell’operazione che ha condotto sull’arto destro di Robert Kubica all’ospedale Santa Corona. Nella migliore delle ipotesi il ventiseienne pilota della Lotus Renault tornerà ad usare il braccio destro soltanto tra un anno. L’arto è stato sottoposto ad un delicato intervento di ricostruzione dell’impianto osseo, di vascolarizzazione e di riconnessione dei tessuti.
L’intervento è durato oltre sette ore, effettuato dalla equipe del professor Rossello, specialista del centro chirurgia della mano del San Paolo di Savona. In sala operatoria anche il dottor Riccardo Ceccarelli, medico della scuderia di Kubica. L’automobilista resterà nel nosocomio di Pietra Ligure a lungo, presumibilmente, mentre la prognosi rimarrà riservata per almeno una settimana. Nei prossimi giorni i medici valuteranno le condizioni di vascolarizzazione della mano e del braccio destro del corridore.

Hand reconstruction specialists in Italy are working hard to save the functionality of Robert Kubica’s right hand tonight after a high speed accident in a rally car this morning.
There were reports initially that the Pole risked losing the hand, but that risk has now passed. However it seems that the rehabilitation from a crush injury such as this can be six months or more, which means that the Renault driver may miss the bulk of the season.
Tonight I called a friend in London, Richard Young, who is a plastic surgeon specialising in hand reconstruction at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, for some insight into hand crush injury, of which he has extensive experience.
I wanted to know what the risks are in a situation such as this and likely recovery times. The caveat for all of what follows is that we do not know the precise details and therefore this is not a specific prognosis on Kubica, more some general medical principles for background understanding.
Apparently when they say a hand is at risk of amputation it is because the blood supply, via blood vessels, to the hand has been severed. That is the first thing to restore and that has clearly been done. So now it’s a question of whether the doctors can restore full functionality, to the level which an F1 driver needs. This means repairing the nerves and tendons and their work will determine whether Kubica will race again. How long the recuperation will take depends on how severe the injury was in the first place.
The first point is that the energy in the accident was clearly very great if it also caused long bone injury such as the broken leg and arm which Kubica suffered. Kubica’s hand appears to have been crushed by some armco entering the cockpit. So the extent of the hand crush injury is likely to be severe.
The hand has many small muscles, tendons and nerves which if crushed are likely to reduce the ability to roll the fingers in and to make fine movements, such as picking up a pin or in the case of an F1 driver, operate the buttons and dials on the steering wheel. Damage to the nerves will impair feeling and this can take at least three months to return.
As for rehabilitation it is long – maybe six months or more depending on the severity of the crush – and crucially there is no short cut. Sometimes when athletes break a bone they can speed up the repair by sitting in a chamber to boost oxygen or blood flow, but that will not apply in this case.
Here we are dealing with tendons and these must be protected for up to three months before any effort can be put through them, otherwise the tendons rupture again. Also if there is severe damage to nerves in the forearm the ability to make fine movements can be lost.
As I said, we haven’t heard from the medical people yet, but these are some of the thoughts and insights of an experienced and active hand reconstruction surgeon.

Y que no tenga problemas con los nervios.. pues entonces puede perder la habilidad para hcer movimientos precisos "tales como, en el caso de los pilotos de F1,operar los diales y botones del volante".

Pero que todo lo dicho son para casos generales de reimplantaciones de manos.. que lo de Kubica dependerá del daño inicial.. pues tras ser golpeada la mano con el guardarail y ser un choque de alta energía seguramente habra daños severos en la mano por el propio impacto

En resumen.. en el caaso mas favorable.. tiene para seis meses, entre recuperacion y rehabilitación... y siempre que no le queden secuelas graves que impidan que vuelva a pilotar un F1

Incidente de Robert Kubica: operación delicada, terminará en la nochepietra Ligure. "Tienes que esperar al menos una semana para ver si sobrevive a la mano". Este es el primer comentario del profesor Igor Rossello terminado que condujo a una extremidad derecha de Robert Kubica en el Hospital de Santa Corona. En el mejor, el Renault de Lotus piloto veinte sólo utilizarán el brazo derecho en un año. La pierna fue sometida a una cirugía de reconstrucción de la planta delicada, fracturas óseas y reconexión de los tejidos.
La intervención duró más de siete horas, realizadas por el equipo del profesor Rosselló, especialista en cirugía de la mano Center de San Paolo Savona. En el o incluso Dr. Riccardo Ceccarelli, médico del equipo de Kubica. El automovilista permanecerá en enfermería casa de Pietra Ligure, presumiblemente, mientras que el pronóstico será reservado para al menos una semana. En los próximos días, los médicos evaluará la vascularización del subcampeón mano y el brazo derecho.
Espero que el bueno de Robert se recupere pronto, pero desde luego que es un despropósito que un piloto de fórmula uno pilote en rallyes, y más aún a tan poco tiempo de comenzar la temporada. Kimi Raikkonen también sufrió accidentes en esta modalidad de competición, y es que un fórmula uno no tiene nada que ver con un coche de calle preparado para competición.

Bueno, al menos su vida no corre peligro, y la mano tampoco sera amputada, esperemos que tenga una buena recuperación, aunque con la entidad de las lesiones, sobre todo en la mano, creo que dificilmente recuperara la funcionalidad que tiene que tener un piloto de F1, aunque ojala, todo quede en un susto.
Bueno, ya salió el parte médico... Como esperábamos... Hacía tiempo ya, que por suerte nos habíamos olvidado de lo durísimo e injusto que es a veces este deporte...
Es un accidente inusual en los rallyes, que normalmente suelen ser salidas sin consecuencias, ese quitamiedos ha segado el coche en la parte del conductor y ha sido algo excepcional y desgraciado.

Los médicos ya han hecho su trabajo, pero ahora la cosa es esperar a ver como evoluciona todo lo cual es impredecible, desde luego que va a tener los mejores medios y solo nos queda esperar.
