Uchimura's watch fascination
Kohei Uchimura's hobby is collecting watches. He explains why:
"I think watches are things of beauty, rather like gymnastics, and so this is what draws me in. But now that I'm married and we have a child, I can't really get away with saying I want another watch! So recently I've just been satisfied with going to browse and stare at them.
"Winning the prize for elegance [awarded at each World Championships, with a watch always the prize] once already has made me want to give even more beautiful gymnastic performances and be honoured in the same way again.
"I was actually more pleased about that - the fact that the beauty of my performance had been recognised - than I was about winning the gold medal itself. So I would actually prefer to win the prize for elegance over the gold medal every time."
