The men's competition saw Uchimura untouchable once again in his 2014 debut. Uchimura, undefeated since finishing second at the 2008 Olympic Games, was invincible in Tokyo. He scored 92.898 to claim victory over German veteran Fabian Hambüchen (90.231) and Japan's Ryohei Kato (89.397).
Uchimura, who owns four world all-around titles and the 2012 Olympic all-around gold medal, earned the highest score on every event except parallel bars. He capped off his competition with an upgraded high bar, stick a triple-twisting double layout dismount.
Hambüchen performed cleanly on his nemesis, pommel horse, and hit the rest of his sets. The two-time Olympic high bar medalist was second to Uchimura on his best event by just .034.
Kato, who finished all-around between Uchimura and Hambüchen at last fall's world championships, was solidly in second going into the final event. But the 2012 Olympian fell on his Cassina (layout Kovacs) on high bar and settled for third place.
Brazil's Sergio Sasaki finished fourth over British Olympian Dan Purvis, who tied Hambüchen for the won the overall World Cup series title. The Tokyo World Cup was the final of four all-around World Cups in over the past six months, following events in Stuttgart and Glasgow in December and the American Cup in March.
