I just read that the livestream for Alonso's test drew over 2 million viewers. Sponsors like that sort of thing, and it won't have escaped the attention of FOG either.
Unrealistically, I hope that someone can make a business case for a new Race of Two Worlds, a one-off event that becomes a tradition like, say, the Macau GP. To see F1 teams and drivers attempt to compete at Texas or Fontana would be fascinating. Pipe dream, but fun to think about.
I think you could put the entire Indycar grid onto any F1 track and the racing (as opposed to the technical trappings or the look of the cars) would be at least as good as F1 itself. Would that hold for the F1 grid racing at the Indy oval or at Texas?
I have a suspicion that Zak Brown and others are discussing that idea. At minimum, I do expect that someone will take an F1 car to an oval this offseason as a marketing stunt. can certainly imagine McLaren doing it, maybe at Honda's Motegi track. After all, Button lapped Bathurst a few years back, and, earlier, Heidfeld did the Nordschleife. It's no more gimmicky than the London street demo now under discussion.
C'mon Zak, FOG... embrace the challenge.
